EFE.— El presidente ruso, Vladimir Putin, anunció este viernes que no participará en la próxima cumbre del G20 en Brasil debido a la orden de arresto emitida por la Corte Penal Internacional (CPI) en su contra, ya que su presencia entorpecería el trabajo normal de esta reunión.
Putin añadió que tiene “relaciones magníficas, de amistad” con su homólogo brasileño, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, por lo que no tendría sentido viajar para afectar el trabajo normal de todo ese foro.
“Comprendemos todo lo que pasa en torno a Rusia. Y yo también lo comprendo”, sostuvo el mandatario ruso.
Observó que la CPI “no es universal”.
“Es una de esas organizaciones internacionales cuya jurisdicción no reconoce Rusia. Al igual que muchos otros países del mundo. Creo que Estados Unidos tampoco la reconoce, China no la reconoce, Turquía… Por ello, no considero malo que exista una organización internacional como esta, pero es necesario que sea universal”, zanjó.
La CPI dictó una orden de detención contra Putin en marzo de 2023 por su presunto papel en la deportación sistemática de niños ucranianos a Rusia, lo cual ha impuesto considerables restricciones a la posibilidad de viajar del mandatario ruso.
En 2006, Brasil, Rusia, la India y China crearon el grupo BRIC, al que se unió Sudáfrica en 2010 añadiendo al acrónimo la letra ‘S’.
Mientras, en 2024 la agrupación incluyó a otros cuatro miembros: Egipto, Irán, Emiratos Árabes Unidos y Etiopía.
Ante el interés que suscitan los BRICS, el Kremlin adelantó que el grupo no aceptará por el momento más países miembros sino Estados asociados.
Durante la cumbre en Kazán, que tendrá lugar entre el 22 y el 24 de octubre, los mandatarios de los países miembros deben definir los criterios para que otras naciones puedan participar en esa calidad.
La reunión también verá a Brasil tomar el testigo para presidir los BRICS durante un año, a partir del 1 de enero de 2025.
Tanto Turquía, como Azerbaiyán, Cuba y Venezuela han mostrado oficialmente interés en ingresar en los BRICS.
