EFE.- Estados Unidos aumentó este viernes de 15 a 25 millones de dólares la recompensa por información que lleve a la captura de Nicolás Maduro, quien hoy fue juramentado en el Parlamento, controlado por el chavismo, como presidente de Venezuela para el periodo 2025-2031.
El anuncio forma parte de una nueva batería de sanciones que la administración de Joe Biden impone después de que Maduro jurara el cargo ante la Asamblea Nacional, controlada por el chavismo, en medio de acusaciones de “golpe de Estado” por parte de la oposición, que reclama la victoria electoral de Edmundo González Urrutia.
Además de la recompensa por Maduro, Estados Unidos ofrece 25 millones por información que lleve a la captura del ministro del Interior, Diosdado Cabello, y otros 15 millones por el arresto del ministro de Defensa, Vladimir Padrino.
Asimismo, el Departamento del Tesoro impuso sanciones económicas a ocho altos cargos del Gobierno venezolano a los que acusa de “represión”, como el presidente de la petrolera estatal PDVSA, Héctor Obregón Pérez, o el ministro de Transportes, Ramón Celestino Velásquez.
El gobierno de Biden, que será sucedido el próximo 20 de enero por la nueva administración de Donald Trump, afirmó que tomará “medidas adicionales” para limitar los ingresos de Maduro y sus representantes al analizar, caso por caso, el embargo de activos venezolanos en el exterior.
Paralelamente, Estados Unidos extenderá por un periodo de otros 18 meses el estatus de protección temporal (TPS) otorgado a miles de venezolanos para que puedan residir y trabajar en el país.
El anuncio de hoy no incluye la cancelación de licencias a empresas extranjeras como Chevron para extraer petróleo de Venezuela.
Un alto cargo del gobierno explicó en una rueda de prensa telefónica que las sanciones impuestas son una respuesta a “los recientes eventos en Venezuela, incluida la falsa toma de posesión presidencial de Maduro”, quien juró el cargo después de que la autoridad electoral lo proclamara ganador de los comicios, sin ofrecer los resultados desagregados de estos.
La misma fuente agregó que González Urrutia “debería prestar juramento hoy como presidente de Venezuela” porque hay “pruebas indiscutibles” de que ganó las elecciones del 28 de julio, de acuerdo con las actas presentadas por la oposición.
