La integración contempla el traspaso de 2,730 camas hospitalarias, 93 quirófanos, 1,098 consultorios de especialidad y 28,000 trabajadores al régimen ordinario del IMSS. De este personal, 7,854 son médicos, 9,250 enfermeras y 1,954 personas hablantes de lenguas indígenas, lo que fortalecerá la atención con enfoque intercultural en comunidades rurales e indígenas.
Como parte del fortalecimiento, se ampliarán las plantillas, se modernizarán las instalaciones y se incorporarán especialidades médicas que antes no estaban disponibles en estos centros, como otorrinolaringología, traumatología, ortopedia y oftalmología.
El nuevo esquema permitirá operar hospitales del IMSS con un modelo de atención universal, atendiendo tanto a personas sin seguridad social como a derechohabientes, especialmente en regiones donde ha crecido el empleo formal. Según datos del propio instituto, el programa ha beneficiado a 10.8 millones de personas, de las cuales 8.4 millones no tienen seguridad social, y 2.4 millones son afiliados del IMSS.
Las entidades con mayor número de beneficiarios son Chiapas, Veracruz, Puebla, Oaxaca y Michoacán, donde esta transformación tendrá un impacto significativo en la cobertura y calidad de la atención médica.
