Un juez federal en New Hampshire ha bloqueado temporalmente la orden ejecutiva del expresidente Donald Trump que buscaba restringir la ciudadanía por nacimiento en Estados Unidos.
La decisión, emitida por el juez Joseph Laplante, responde a una demanda colectiva presentada por la Unión Estadounidense por las Libertades Civiles (ACLU) y otras organizaciones defensoras de los derechos de los inmigrantes. La demanda representa a niños nacidos en el país cuyos padres no son ciudadanos estadounidenses ni residentes permanentes legales.
La orden ejecutiva, firmada por Trump el 20 de enero de 2025, pretendía negar la ciudadanía automática a los hijos de inmigrantes indocumentados y de aquellos con estatus migratorio temporal, como estudiantes o turistas.
Esta medida contradecía la interpretación tradicional de la Enmienda 14 de la Constitución, que garantiza la ciudadanía a todas las personas nacidas en territorio estadounidense, con pocas excepciones.
