Un hijo del reconocido capo mexicano Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán se declaró culpable el viernes de cargos de narcotráfico en Estados Unidos. Es el primero de los hijos de El Chapo en llegar a un acuerdo de culpabilidad.
Los fiscales alegan que Ovidio Guzmán López y su hermano, Joaquín Guzmán López, dirigían una facción del cártel de Sinaloa. Se conocen localmente como los Chapitos, y las autoridades federales en 2023 describieron la operación como un esfuerzo masivo para enviar cantidades “asombrosas” de fentanilo a Estados Unidos.
Ovidio Guzmán López se declaró culpable de cargos de tráfico de drogas, lavado de dinero y armas de fuego relacionados con su papel de liderazgo en el cártel.
Como parte de un acuerdo de culpabilidad, Guzmán López admitió haber supervisado la producción y el tráfico de grandes cantidades de cocaína, heroína, metanfetamina, mariguana y fentanilo hacia Estados Unidos, alimentando una crisis que ha contribuido a decenas de miles de muertes por sobredosis anualmente.
