Un juez federal de Florida desestimó este viernes la demanda por difamación de 15 mil millones de dólares presentada por el presidente Donald Trump contra el diario The New York Times y la editorial Penguin Random House. El magistrado Steven Merryday calificó la denuncia de “decididamente inapropiada e inadmisible”, señalando que violaba las reglas procesales federales al ser excesivamente extensa y carente de claridad legal.
La demanda, presentada el martes anterior, acusaba al periódico y a los periodistas Peter Baker, Russ Buettner, Susanne Craig y Michael Schmidt de difamación. Trump alegaba que una serie de artículos y el libro Lucky Loser —de Craig y Buettner— contenían falsedades que afectaban su reputación y su éxito empresarial.
En su fallo, Merryday destacó que la queja no debe ser un “megáfono para las relaciones públicas ni un podio para un discurso apasionado en un mitin político ni el equivalente funcional del Speakers’ Corner de Hyde Park”.
El juez criticó la presentación de la demanda por su tono “inflamatorio y retórico”, que incluía elogios a Trump y referencias a su programa televisivo El Aprendiz.
