Bolivia volvió a investigar conjuntamente casos de narcotráfico con la Administración de Control de Drogas (DEA, por sus siglas en inglés), antes incluso de que la agencia estadunidense reabra su oficina después de haber sido expulsada del país hace 18 años, declaró este miércoles a la AFP el zar antidrogas boliviano.
En 2008, el entonces presidente indígena Evo Morales (2006-2019) rompió relaciones con Estados Unidos y expulsó a la DEA por su supuesto apoyo a un complot contra su gobierno. Bolivia es el tercer productor mundial de cocaína del mundo, después de Colombia y Perú.
El presidente centroderechista, Rodrigo Paz, que asumió su cargo en noviembre tras 20 años de socialismo, dio un giro radical a la política exterior boliviana, en busca de cooperación económica y de seguridad con la administración de su homólogo estadunidense Donald Trump.
“Ahora esperamos nosotros que (los agentes de la DEA) vuelvan a tener una oficina permanente” en Bolivia, aunque ya “es como si estuvieran, porque hay un trabajo conjunto, de investigaciones conjuntas”, indicó Ernesto Justiniano, viceministro de Defensa Social y responsable de la política antidrogas del país. “Con la DEA se está investigando, se está intercambiando información”, precisó.
