Marco Rubio, secretario de Estado de Estados Unidos, descartó este jueves la posibilidad de que el gobierno de Donald Trump vaya a enviar tropas a México para combatir el crimen organizado tras el asesinato del alcalde de Uruapan, Carlos Manzo.
“Obviamente, no vamos a tomar medidas unilaterales ni enviar fuerzas estadounidenses a México, pero podemos ayudarles con equipamiento, formación, intercambio de información de inteligencia y todo tipo de cosas que podamos hacer si nos lo piden. Tienen que pedirlo”, declaró Rubio tras su participación en la reunión de cancilleres del G7 en Ontario, Canadá.
El presidente Donald Trump le ha ofrecido ayuda en materia de seguridad a Claudia Sheinbaum durante las llamadas que han sostenido, ha dicho la mandataria en reiteradas ocasiones.
Rubio señaló que no sólo por la muerte de Manzo podrían enviar militares, ya que el crimen organizado ha asesinado a más alcaldes, así como a periodistas y jueces.
El secretario de Estado aseguró que los cárteles de la droga son muy poderosos y una de las cosas que más le preocupan a la administración de Trump es el auge que han tenido como organizaciones terroristas transnacionales.
“Poseen más armas, mejor entrenamiento, mejor inteligencia y más capacidades que algunos Estados”, puntualizó el republicano.
Marco Rubio aseguró que los cárteles de la droga controlan y gobiernen zonas de México, lo que los llega a hacer más fuertes que a los elementos de seguridad locales y hasta nacionales.
La presidenta Claudia Sheinbaum descartó el pasado 4 de noviembre que el gobierno de Trump realice en un futuro operaciones para combatir a los cárteles en territorio mexicano.
“Eso no va a ocurrir, no tenemos ningún informe de que vaya a ocurrir eso. Además, no estamos de acuerdo y se lo hemos planteado al presidente Trump”, comentó.
