Los presidentes de EE.UU. y China, Donald Trump y Xi Jinping, tienen previsto hablar por teléfono el viernes y tratar temas bilaterales relacionados con el comercio o con la plataforma TikTok, con la expectativa de que ambos acuerden detalles para que la exitosa aplicación pueda seguir operando en territorio estadounidense.
La llamada, que anunció Trump sin que haya sido confirmada por China, llega tras la cuarta ronda de conversaciones celebrada esta semana en Madrid, donde además de reducir barreras para la inversión o avanzar en temas de cooperación económica, ambas partes acordaron un marco para resolver el caso TikTok.
La problemática parte de la ley que aprobó el Congreso en 2024, que establece que para que TikTok no sea cerrada en EE.UU. la sociedad que opere la aplicación en suelo estadounidense debe quedar lo suficientemente desligada de la matriz china, ByteDance, especialmente en lo referente al acceso que Pekín pueda tener a servidores que almacenen datos de usuarios.
La Casa Blanca ha dado señales que han parecido contentar a China. Por ejemplo, al decir que aprueba que ByteDance tenga una participación pequeña en la nueva sociedad operadora que debería erigirse para que la plataforma no cierre en EE.UU. y que se cree que podría estar participada por Oracle, Silver Lake y el fondo de capital riesgo Andreessen Horowitz.
