El alcalde de Chihuahua, Marco Bonilla, participó en el tercer foro “América Libre”, presidido por la Organización Demócrata Cristiana de América (ODCA), donde ofreció un mensaje introductorio previo a la conferencia magistral “Los retos del mundo libre y la defensa de los valores democráticos”.
En su intervención, Bonilla destacó que defender la democracia nunca ha sido tarea fácil, y que hoy más que nunca es una responsabilidad ineludible ante el avance silencioso de regímenes autoritarios en todo el mundo.
“La democracia no es una etiqueta ideológica ni una fórmula electoral y un compromiso ético. Una forma de entender el poder como servicio, la autoridad como responsabilidad y la libertad como bien irrenunciable”, expresó.
El Alcalde advirtió que, en 2025, siete de cada diez personas viven bajo regímenes autoritarios, con libertades en retroceso y procesos democráticos debilitados, no por golpes militares, sino por una erosión silenciosa que se disfraza de legalidad.
En el caso de México, señaló que un movimiento populista ha llegado al poder sin vocación democrática, utilizando recursos del Estado para socavar las mismas reglas que le dieron acceso al gobierno, con prácticas autoritarias y alianzas preocupantes con la delincuencia organizada.
“En estas condiciones, ser demócrata no es solo una postura política: es una declaración de principios. Es afirmar, incluso contra la corriente, que hay cosas que no deben negociarse: la libertad no es un privilegio, sino un derecho; los valores no son obstáculos, sino brújula”, puntualizó Bonilla.
El foro contó con la participación especial del Presidente Electo de Venezuela, Edmundo González Urrutia, a quien el alcalde Bonilla presentó como un símbolo vivo de la resistencia democrática.
González, diplomático de carrera, logró unificar a la oposición venezolana y vencer al régimen autoritario de Nicolás Maduro, demostrando que la confianza en el pueblo y en las urnas sigue siendo una herramienta poderosa para el cambio.
“En un país marcado por más de dos décadas de autoritarismo, su candidatura logró lo que parecía imposible: devolverles a millones de venezolanos una esperanza que creían perdida”, destacó Bonilla al presentarlo.
Este foro fue convocado por Mariana Gómez del Campo, Presidenta de la ODCA, en un donde se reunieron líderes de 70 organizaciones políticas de más de 30 países entre los que se encuentran el Partido Acción Nacional de México, el Partido Popular de España, el Partido Conservador de Colombia, el Partido Unidad Social Cristiana de Costa Rica, el Partido Patria Querida de Paraguay, entre muchos otros, así como diversas organizaciones que pugnan por la democracia y los derechos humanos en Venezuela y en Cuba.
