El diputado del Grupo Parlamentario del PAN, Arturo Zubía Fernández, presentó un punto de acuerdo para exhortar al Gobierno Federal a excluir a Chihuahua de los estados que deberán entregar agua a Estados Unidos como compensación por el incumplimiento del tratado de 1944, con el objetivo de proteger el recurso hídrico destinado al consumo humano y al sector agrícola en la entidad.
La propuesta plantea que, ante el acuerdo compensatorio entre ambos países, estados fronterizos como Tamaulipas, Coahuila, Chihuahua y Nuevo León aporten volúmenes de agua para cubrir el adeudo; sin embargo, el legislador advirtió que en Chihuahua existe una sequía histórica que ha generado escasez de agua, lo que pone en riesgo presas como La Boquilla y Las Vírgenes, así como la actividad productiva del campo.
Zubía Fernández explicó que esta situación mantiene en incertidumbre a productores y comunidades que dependen del agua para sus actividades diarias, por lo que insistió en priorizar el uso local del recurso. “No es posible entregar el agua que no se tiene; no se puede poner en riesgo el consumo humano ni el riego agrícola en Chihuahua”, expresó el diputado.
El legislador indicó que el exhorto busca que la Federación tome en cuenta las condiciones actuales del estado antes de definir cualquier medida de compensación, a fin de evitar afectaciones a la población y a la economía local, en una entidad donde el agua es un recurso limitado y fundamental para su desarrollo.
