El Departamento de Estado de Estados Unidos anunció el retiro de visas a “familiares, socios personales y comerciales” y a directivos de CIBanco, Intercam y Vector, señaladas ayer por el Departamento del Tesoro, como facilitadoras de lavado de dinero de los cárteles de la droga, por un monto de al menos 46 millones 591 mil dólares.
“La medida de hoy amplía las herramientas existentes”, apuntó el Departamento en un comunicado donde advierte “que utilizará todas las herramientas necesarias para disuadir y desmantelar el flujo de fentanilo y otras drogas ilícitas que ingresan a Estados Unidos y perjudican a sus ciudadanos”.
Considera que imponer restricciones de visa a narcotraficantes, sus familiares y socios comerciales y personales cercanos ´”no sólo les impedirá entrar a Estados Unidos, sino que también servirá como elemento disuasorio para la continuación de actividades ilícitas”, reporta la dependencia que preside Marco Rubio.
Antes, la Comisión Nacional Bancaria y de Valores anunció que intervendrá CIBanco e Intercam, pese a que un día de que que la Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público reconociera que previamente fue advertida por el Departamento del Tesoro sobre presuntos vínculos de estas instituciones, y de la casa de bolsa Vector, con actividades de lavado de dinero de los cárteles de la droga, pero no recibió pruebas al respecto y el tema quedó en “problemas administrativos”.
“La crisis del fentanilo en Estados Unidos no tiene precedentes, y las sobredosis siguen siendo la principal causa de muerte en estadounidenses de entre 18 y 44 años. Se informa que más del 40 por ciento de los estadounidenses conoce a alguien que ha fallecido por una sobredosis de opioides, y en 2024 Estados Unidos registró un promedio de más de 220 muertes diarias por sobredosis”, apuntó el Estado al dar a conocer la medida.
