El presidente estadunidense, Donald Trump, rechazó una oferta de su par ruso, Vladimir Putin para ampliar voluntariamente los límites al despliegue de armas nucleares estratégicas tras la expiración del tratado que los mantuvo bajo control durante más de dos décadas.
“En lugar de prorrogar el Nuevo START (…), deberíamos hacer que nuestros expertos nucleares trabajen en un nuevo tratado, mejorado y modernizado, que pueda durar mucho tiempo en el futuro”, escribió Trump en una publicación en su plataforma Truth Social.
Trump respondía así a una propuesta del presidente ruso, Vladímir Putin, para que ambas partes se adhirieran durante un año a los límites establecidos por el acuerdo de 2010 sobre el despliegue de ojivas nucleares estratégicas y los misiles, aviones y submarinos que las transportan.
