Australia, Canadá y Reino Unido reconocieron a Palestina como un Estado en el marco del aumento en los ataques armados de Israel en la Franja de Gaza. Este domingo 21 de septiembre, las tres naciones fijaron su postura toda vez que el primer ministro israelí Benjamin Netanyahu calificó como un “peligro” para Israel si se llevaba a cabo el anuncio.
Junto con los tres países, Portugal se sumaría al reconocimiento del Estado Palestino antes de que inicie la próxima sesión de la Asamblea Geberal de la ONU. Varios países que son aliados de Israel dieron su postura de reconocer al estado palestino tras casi dos años de ataques de Tel Aviv desde que iniciaron el pasado 13 de octubre de 2023.
El Reino Unido y Canadá se convirtieron en los primeros países del G7 en dar este paso el domingo. En una cumbre en la ONU copresidida por Francia y Arabia Saudita el lunes dedicada a abordar el futuro de la solución de dos Estados, una decena de países confirmarán su reconocimiento formal del Estado palestino, informó APF.
Reino Unido, aliado histórico de Israel, dio el paso este domingo en un cambio histórico en décadas de política exterior británica. “Hoy, el Reino Unido reconoce formalmente al Estado de Palestina para revivir la esperanza de paz entre palestinos e israelíes, y una solución de dos Estados”, dijo el primer ministro británico, Keir Starmer, en una publicación en la red social X.
