La audiencia del ‘Narco de Narcos’ sorprendió por la falta de precedentes en el despliegue: más de un centenar de agentes de la DEA, otra treintena de trabajadores del Departamento de Justicia y una veintena de periodistas internacionales.
A Caro Quintero (Sinaloa, 1952), como líder del poderoso Cártel de Guadalajara en los años setenta y principios de los ochenta, se le imputa el asesinato del agente de la Administración para el Control de Drogas (DEA) Enrique ‘Kiki’ Camarena y el del piloto mexicano Alfredo Zavala en 1985, uno de los sucesos más recordados de la historia del narcotráfico en México.
“Después de 40 años, el hombre que asesinó a Camarena está aquí para enfrentarse a la Justicia. Es responsable de la muerte de muchos estadounidense por el tráfico de drogas. Estuvo huido durante años en las zonas rurales y en la jungla en Sinaloa (México) pensando que nos olvidaríamos de él, pero la Justicia estadounidense no olvida”, aseguró la fiscal Saritha Komatireddy sobre el capo, ya septuagenario.
‘El Narco de Narcos’ apareció con camisón naranja de presidiario y por encima otra camisa azul, esposado y custodiado de cerca por cuatro miembros del Servicio de Alguaciles, luciendo un tupido pelo canoso y sin aparentes dificultades para desplazarse.
