El empresario Carlos Slim ha consolidado su papel como socio privado clave de Pemex, destinando más de 2 mil millones de dólares a la adquisición y explotación de yacimientos en el país. A través de Grupo Carso SAB, ha invertido en proyectos estratégicos que incluyen la compra de dos yacimientos petrolíferos por 530 millones de dólares, así como un plan de 1,200 millones para desarrollar un proyecto de gas en aguas profundas en el Golfo de México.
Slim también posee una participación minoritaria en Zama, un bloque que podría representar el 10% de la producción petrolera de México, y ha financiado la explotación del campo Lakach, un proyecto que busca ampliar la producción de gas natural en el país.
Sin embargo, la apuesta del magnate por el sector energético se da en un contexto complicado. Pemex enfrenta una deuda de 100 mil millones de dólares, mientras su producción ha caído a mínimos históricos. Pese a la intervención de Slim, expertos advierten que la recuperación del sector podría tomar años.
“El equipo de Slim está haciendo un esfuerzo interesante, pero todo dependerá de su capacidad para ejecutar proyectos upstream”, señaló Pablo Medina, director de Welligence, consultora especializada en energía.
Mientras la administración de Claudia Sheinbaum busca atraer inversión privada con reformas energéticas, algunos analistas consideran que las nuevas regulaciones podrían no ser suficientes para impulsar el sector. A pesar de ello, Slim ha mantenido su presencia en el mercado energético, apostando por la expansión de sus operaciones a largo plazo.
