El plan del Gobierno de Estados Unidos de destinar 20 millones de dólares a guantes de descarga eléctrica para los agentes migratorios desató el rechazo de congresistas demócratas y defensores de migrantes, que pidieron cortar los fondos del Servicio de Inmigración y Aduanas (ICE).
“Armar con guantes de descarga eléctrica a agentes mal entrenados para infligir dolor a nuestros vecinos es repugnante y bárbaro”, afirmó en un comunicado Kica Matos, presidenta del Centro Nacional de Leyes de Inmigración (NILC, en inglés).
El Departamento de Seguridad Nacional (DHS) anunció un contrato de hasta 20 millones de dólares para comprar los guantes CTG-5, que llevan electrodos en la palma y emiten pulsos eléctricos al contacto con la piel para causar dolor.
El departamento los describió como un “dispositivo de desescalada” y defendió que el ICE evalúa de forma continua el equipo que necesitan sus agentes.
