El gobierno de Estados Unidos informó sobre la reunión de funcionarios de ese país y de México para discutir las medidas que garanticen el cumplimiento del Tratado de Aguas de 1944.
En un comunicado, la administración estadounidense señaló que en el encuentro participaron altos funcionarios de los departamentos de Estado, Agricultura y la Comisión Internacional de Límites y Aguas con sus homólogos mexicanos.
La dependencia subrayó que el presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, ha insistido en que México debe cumplir con sus obligaciones estipuladas en el tratado, incluyendo cumplir con un déficit de 865 mil acres-pies del ciclo 2020-2025.
México también debe cumplir con los requisitos de suministros del siguiente periodo quinquenal, del 2025 al 2030.
“Esto incluye un plan para cumplir de manera confiable con los requisitos del tratado de agua que considere las necesidades de los usuarios de Texas”, dice el documento.
El Departamento de Estado explicó que la escasez de agua en México también ha exacerbado la falta de líquido en Texas.
Además, indicó que en lo que va del actual gobierno del presidente Donald Trump, México entregó más agua que en los cuatro años anteriores, que corresponden a la administración de Joe Biden.
