La presidenta Claudia Sheinbaum informó este jueves que sostuvo una “muy buena llamada” con su homólogo estadounidense, Donald Trump, que permitió evitar el aumento de aranceles previsto para mañana y acordar un plazo de 90 días para construir un acuerdo comercial de largo plazo a partir del diálogo bilateral.
México logró una prórroga de 90 días más para la entrada en vigor de los aranceles del 30% anunciados por Estados Unidos, tras la llamada de esta mañana entre la presidenta Claudia Sheinbaum con su homólogo estadounidense Donald Trump.
Así lo confirmó esta mañana Trump en su red social Truth Social. El anuncio se da a unas horas de que venza el plazo para la entrada en vigor del arancel de 30% a las exportaciones mexicanas hacia Estados Unidos, que no está claro si será generalizado o solo afectará a las mercancías que no cumplen con el Tratado México-Estados Unidos-Canadá (T-MEC).
“Acabo de concluir una conversación telefónica con la presidenta de México, Claudia Sheinbaum, que resultó muy fructífera, ya que nos conocemos y entendemos mejor. Las complejidades de un acuerdo con México son algo diferentes a las de otros países debido a los problemas y las ventajas de la frontera”, escribió Trump tras la llamada de alto nivel.
El mandatario republicano dijo que se acordó extender, por 90 días, exactamente el mismo acuerdo: México seguirá pagando un arancel del 25% al fentanilo, un arancel del 25% a los automóviles y un arancel del 50% al acero, el aluminio y el cobre.
“Además, México acordó eliminar de inmediato sus numerosas barreras comerciales no arancelarias. Hablaremos con México durante los próximos 90 días con el objetivo de firmar un acuerdo comercial dentro de ese plazo, o incluso más”, precisó Trump sobre las nuevas condiciones comerciales con su vecino.
Por su parte la presidenta de México, Claudia Sheinbaum, dijo: “Tuvimos una muy buena llamada con el presidente Trump. Evitamos el aumento de aranceles anunciado para mañana y logramos 90 días para construir un acuerdo de largo plazo a partir del diálogo”.
Sheinbaum dijo que en la reunión la acompañaron el secretario de Relaciones Exteriores, Juan Ramón de la Fuente; el secretario de Economía, Marcelo Ebrard, y Roberto Velasco, subsecretario para América del Norte.
En la reunión estuvieron presentes por parte del equipo de Trump el vicepresidente J. D. Vance, el secretario del Tesoro Scott Bessent, el secretario de Estado Marco Rubio, el secretario de Comercio Howard Lutnick, el representante comercial de Estados Unidos y embajador Jamieson Greer, la jefa de gabinete Susie Wiles, el subjefe de gabinete para políticas y el asesor de Seguridad Nacional de Estados Unidos, Stephen Miller.
Ambos gobiernos coincidieron en que se mantendrá la cooperación fronteriza en temas de seguridad, incluyendo el combate al tráfico de drogas y la migración irregular.
