El presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, anunció el martes (11.3.2025) que duplicará los aranceles que prevé imponer al acero y al aluminio procedentes de Canadá, que pasarán a estar gravados con un 50 por ciento y entrarán en vigor mañana, miércoles, 12 de marzo de 2025.
A través de su red social Truth Social, Trump explicó que la medida es una respuesta a la decisión adoptada por la provincia canadiense de Ontario, que comenzó este lunes a incrementar en un 25 por ciento el precio de la electricidad que suministra a Estados Unidos.
“En base a que Ontario, Canadá, ha impuesto un arancel del 25 % sobre la ‘electricidad’ que entra en Estados Unidos, he ordenado a mi secretario de Comercio que AÑADA UN ARANCEL ADICIONAL DEL 25 %, HASTA EL 50 %, sobre TODO EL ACERO Y ALUMINIO QUE LLEGUE A ESTADOS UNIDOS DESDE CANADÁ, UNO DE LOS PAÍSES QUE MÁS ARANCELES IMPONE EN TODO EL MUNDO. Esto entrará en vigor MAÑANA POR LA MAÑANA, 12 de marzo”, escribió Trump en Truth Social.
